Noah Adams and Deekshitha Ganesan (2023) The State of Trans-Specific Healthcare in the EU:
Looking Beyond the Trans Health Map 2022. TGEU.
The updated Version (2024, https://transhealthmap.tgeu.org/) "represents the availability and accessibility of trans-specific healthcare as it is guaranteed under national law and policy. However, in many countries, the reality of access to care may not match what is available on paper or care might be close to unavailable. Further, access to trans-specific healthcare may differ based on the location within a country, depending on factors such as regional laws and policies, where the expertise is located or how far a person needs to travel to access care. The Health Map does not represent differences in access levels based on regional disparities or location, except in Spain, where healthcare is highly devolved to the regions. For some countries, developments on related aspects such as legal gender recognition, the general state of healthcare access, or the socio-political environment have also impacted trans-specific healthcare, including by making access very challenging. We have tried to account for this in representing availability and accessibility of healthcare."
